Buying a PC/Laptop!

For part three of my assignment I was asked to post a blog on the factors that I would consider when buying a PC or Laptop for my course, applied psychology. So I will now discuss it.
Personally I would prefer to buy laptop. The reason for this is it is very convenient. You can bring your laptop with you everywhere you go. This is very helpful for any college student as if you begin to work on an assignment at home and have a huge break the next day in college you can continue working on your assignment in college because you can easily bring your laptop with you.

I think the appearance of your laptop is also an important factor to consider when buying your laptop. The things I would look out for is the size of the screen.. Does it cater to your needs? As well as the buttons on the laptop.. Due to a lot of assignments that require writing essays on your laptop, it is important that you make sure that you find your laptop easy to type on. And not forgetting of course that you actually like what your laptop looks like!

Memory or RAM is and has always been an important consideration when looking at purchasing a computer especially for a student in my course. As a student you are obviously going to receive a lot of assignments, in particular ones which you are required to do on your laptop over a period of time. You may also be doing a number of assignments at the same time. This means you will need to be able to save your assignments on to your laptop. Chances are you are also going to want many other applications on your laptop also, such as itunes for your music, or a programme which holds all your photographs and many more. As a result it is very important to ask about the memory when you are purchasing your laptop.

Weight is a very important consideration when considering a portable as the computer will generally be carried to and from college, the library, or just around the house; the lighter the portable computer, the more easy it will be to carry.

The speed of your computer is another factor to consider when buying your computer. You dont want to have to wait ten minutes evertying time you want to access something different. However, the speed of your computer relates to the memory your computer has. This is again another factor to encourage you to make sure you have a large memory on your laptop. I feel it is very important.

I hope this blog helps you to make an easier decision when choosing your laptop for college!

Internet addiction images!

The links to my two technologhy articles! :)

Here are the links to the two arcticles that I chose to look at for part two of the assignment, which was findng an article that related to any part of technology. These articles are on the topic of internet addiction.

China bans physical punishment for internet addicts: www.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/china/China-bans-physical-punishment-for-internet-addicts/articleshow/5198927.cms

Why mums have become internet addicts:
www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/04/13/mothers.internet.addiction/index.html

Hope you enjoy them! :)

Summary of one of my technology articles.

For my ICT assignment in college I was asked to create a blog and in it include two articles relating to an area of technology that interests me. I thought about it for a while and researched topics such as mobile phones, iPods and the internet. I looked at many different articles on each of the three, including is it possible mobile phones can produce radiation that can damage your health in the long term. Also that iPods’ can severely damage your hearing if the sound is above a certain level. However I eventually settled on the subject of the internet and the bad effects this technology can have on you.
I chose to research articles on the subject of internet addiction. I looked at many reports on the different news paper websites as well as just typing ‘internet addiction’ and similar phrases into the google search engine. I eventually found two articles relating to internet addiction.
One of the reports was based on why mothers are at risk of becoming addicted to the internet.
The second report was on China being forced to ban physical punishment for internet addicts (a treatment which is popularly used in China to cure people of internet addiction) after a boy was beaten to death as a result of it.
The article I choose to write a summary about is the report about China banning physical punishment for internet addicts.
Chinas ministry of health was forced to ban the use of physical punishment in boot camps that are designed especially to wean people, in particular teens, of the internet.
The Chinese Government issued many warnings to the people of China about the increasing health risks of spending too much time on the internet. Worried parents began enrolling their teenagers into organisations claiming to treat internet ‘disorders’. These organisations are mainly boot camps that are have a very military style technique and atmosphere.
The people that have enrolled for the ’extreme’ treatment in the boot camps are forced to take part in extreme physical activity or punishment instead of spending hours using the internet.
However when 15 year old Deng Senshan was reported dead after being beaten to death at one the boot camps, as well as another teenager being rushed to hospital from another one of these establishments because of kidney failure and water in his lungs after a very similar attack the government had to take action. As a result physical was banned from the internet treatment programmes all over China.
It also emerged that in July the Chinese government also was forced to ban electro-shock therapy as a treatment for internet addiction after a psychiatrist issued electro-shock therapy to over 3000 teenagers.
In China internet addiction is a massive problem, especially in teenagers. However it seems to be on the rise in other countries also. This is especially true in America. Because of the large amount of cases of internet addiction in America they have formed rehab groups especially for people with an addiction to the internet. These rehab centres seem to have a high success rate and China have recently begun to establish these rehab centres also.
From reading this article it seems that there is not yet a highly successful treatment for internet addiction and there is still a lot of experimentation. Most of which in this article was unsuccessful as well as very dangerous.

Ok so theres some stupid useless information about me and my blog!

Pictures of the Bands I talked about!

Arctic Monkeys!!

Babyshambles

Justice!

Vampire Weekend!

Kings of Leon

Bands/Artists to check out!!

One of my favourite things in the whole entire world is MUSIC!!! I wouldnt be able to live without it. Im absolutly addicted! So I put together a list of just a few of the bands that I would listen to. So in no paricular order.. Drum roll please....!!

1) Arctic Monkeys : In particular their first album Whatever people say I am thats what im not... Best album I have ever listened to in my life. Every song is amazing. And on their second album Favourite Worst Nightmare, I would listen to the songs 'do me a favor' and '505'.

2) Babyshambles: Although the lead singer of this band is the infamous Pete Doherty (most people would know him for being in a relationship with model Kate Moss, and a major drug addict) people should have more faith in his music! You should definitely check out his album Shotters Nation, made when he was clean and sober, the album is fantastic. Pete Doherty might just suprise you.

3) Justice†: Justice are two DJ's from Paris that make electro music. The duo have achieved an astounding success over the last two years and there is no comparrison between them and other DJ's of the same genre. They are amazing live and their music just makes you want to dance like crazy! You might have heard of one of their hit songs 'D.A.N.C.E'. Have a listen to their album '†' alternatively known as cross.

4) Vampire Weekend: This Band is a very interesting Band. Their style is different to anybody elses. Its what I would describe as music that makes you happy! Their music is described as Afro pop because of its similaritys to african style music. Their album 'Vampire Weekend' is one that I would reccomend if you have not heard them before I think its one of the most refreshing and replayable indie albums ever made. They are brilliant.

5) Kings of Leon: Ok so if you havnt heard of Kings of Leon you must have been living under a rock for the past year. Most people only seem to know their newest album 'only by the night' because of the famous songs sex on fire and use somebody. However in comparison to their older albums, the new one is just crap! Seriously! Go listen to thier first second and third album. Now thats where you will hear the 'real' Kings of Leon.

Thoughts on Steve Aoki's Gig!

Ok so I went to see Steve Aoki last night in the Button Factory!! For those of you who dont know Steve Aoki he is a famous electro music dj!

I have been to see many djs in the past, and in comparrison to the others Steve Aoki suprised me.. A lot! However in both a good and a bad way!As he is so well known I was expecting him to be up there with the best. However his dj/mixing skills etc just wernt up to scratch.. He had a ok playlist of songs but I felt he just played one after the other with no real technique. Not that it mattered all that much to me, I didnt feel let down by it or anything I was just suprised!

Although he made up for the lack of effort that was put into his set in other ways.. The main one being entertaining the croud!!!Steve Aoki was absolutly crazy.. He was mental!! After being on the stage for litreally two seconds he jumped into the croud and he did this a few times throughout the show! When he was preparing I saw the people backstage bring out loads of drinks and bottles of chapagne for him, and I innitally thought god he must be really high maintenance! However I soon found out during the show that this was not the case. He poured tonnes of drink out into the audience during the show. He had so much energy.. He never seemed to ever be behind his decks he was constantly at the front of the stage bouncing around and interacting with the fans (whom some were just as crazy).

Although this may not suprise you, like if you think of the many heavy metal/rock fans/bands, im sure this type of entrtainment at those concerts is the norm. However in all my times going to see similair djs eg; Justice, MSTRCRFT, Crookers, Boys Noize etc, all of them stayed behind their decks the entire show and concentrated purely on their djing, none of them came out like Steve Aoki and bounced around. Although I think for the other DJ's their reason for staying in the background was to try create some type of cool image.

And even though Steve Aoki djing wasnt the best and his song choice was just ok, I still think I enjoyed myself more at his gig than at any other. So I came to the conclusion that the entertainment from the muscian is more important to me than the quality of the music itself! Suprising!

Farmville!!!

Farmville!! Farmville is most definitely the most addictive game on the planet! Im only using it four weeks now and already im on it everyday. Plowing my land, planting and harvesting my crops... Its all I can think of! Im am seriously addicted!!!!! HELP!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with 'farmville' I will explain what it is. It is an application on the famous 'facebook'. You begin with a smal,l virtual farm. You are given a patch of land and your aim is to make farmville money and go up levels by gaining something called 'xp'.

You can get the xp by planting and buying objects, buildings, animals etc for your farm as well as helping your neighbours. Your main job as a farmer is also to tend to your animals, eg: milking cows, plant crops and then harvest them. You can get different types of bonus' called ribbons where you are given a special price of lots of money and xp for things such as adopting animals or harvesting a certain amount of trees. You can also recieve gifts from your neighbours.

Although it may seem like the most boring game on the planet (which at one stage i would have actually agreed, that is until I started playing), once you start playing you just cant stop.

Its possibly one of the best games ever invented! Whoever invented is seriously a genius!! However I would not reccomend this game to anybody that does worth while things all day long or has an important job because this game takes up a lot of your time!!!

Writers Block

first post!!!!!

Why is it that when you're not given a subject to write about on things such as blogs or essays it is extremly difficult to pick a topic?!! You could write abou absolutly anything. You have at least a billion options. However, when it comes to actually sitting down and writing something you get a complete block. It results in you wasting so much time sitting at the computer looking at a blank screen just thinking about something to write about and when you finally come up with an idea to write about eg; music you dont know where to begin.
How is it that you spend the most time writing your first line? That first line is the worst part of the whole exercise. You spend the so much time going between writing the line out and then deleting it until you think your happy with it. Chances are that when you read it again you will be totally unhappy with it, realise how badly written it is and yet again, delete it!
Im sure your begining to realise now that I do not enjoy writing! It kills me to look around the room at the rest of my classmates blogging, and while their blog writng seems to be going great, im still stuck in ponderland!
